Andrew Davie e-mailed me this explanation for the Russian games:

As for the models, it appears to me that the early versions of these machines were totally Russian and the labelling was in Cyrillic.  At some point, they switched the machine markings to English, and so changed to the equivalent English characters for the model name.  My *GUESS* is that the two letters NM (that should be a backwards N, too - which is a Russian for the letter "i") refer to something like "mini game" - and hence we see "MG" in the English version.
